About the BKS
The Bundesvereinigung Kreditankauf und Servicing e.V. (BKS) was founded in 2007 and is a professional association based in Berlin that represents the interests of companies involved with non-performing loans (NPLs) on the creditor side in Germany. This includes both investors who purchase these loans and servicers who manage or recover them.
The BKS pursues several important goals:
- Defining and safeguarding the professional interests of its members
- Developing, refining, and establishing uniform rules and standards for the trade and management of NPLs
- Participating in relevant legislative projects
Furthermore, it promotes the exchange of experiences between investors and servicers, maintains the reputation of the profession through professional and corporate governance rules, supports education and training as well as scientific research in the NPL field, and maintains international contacts in the professional field. To achieve these goals, the BKS conducts events, working groups, and training measures, publishes publications, represents the industry in public, and develops guidelines and standards.
Membership and Financing
Natural and legal persons who are predominantly professionally involved with NPLs can become members of the BKS. There are also supporting memberships. The BKS is primarily financed through membership fees. The association is listed in the lobby register of the German Bundestag.
Organizational Structure
The bodies of the BKS are:
- The General Assembly
- The Presidium
- The Advisory Board
The Presidium consists of the President, two Vice Presidents, the Treasurer, and seven assessors. It conducts the business of the association with the help of the office and represents it externally. The office manages the association’s business on behalf of the Presidium. The Advisory Board advises the Presidium, develops guidelines and standards for the NPL market, and is appointed by the Presidium. The General Assembly, as the highest body, elects the Presidium, decides on amendments to the statutes, and determines the guidelines for the association’s work.
Overall, the BKS offers its members a platform for exchange, representation of interests, and further development in a demanding field of business that is of great importance for the functioning of the credit market. As a professional association, it is committed to professional standards, legal certainty, and responsible handling of non-performing loans.
