BKS – the Bundesvereinigung Kreditankauf und Servicing – has been appointed to the European Commission’s NPL Advisory Panel. The appointment marks a significant step for the representation of the credit and servicing industry at European level.
The NPL Advisory Panel is the Commission’s central expert body advising on the design and monitoring of regulation for non-performing loans. With BKS joining, the perspective of one of Europe’s most important markets now feeds directly into the legislative dialogue in Brussels.
A focus on stability and efficiency
BKS will concentrate its work on the Panel on closing the gap between regulatory theory and operational practice. At a time when the European economy faces cyclical headwinds, a functioning secondary market for loans is more essential than ever in relieving banks’ balance sheets.
Our strategic priorities on the Panel are:
- A practice check for regulation: we work to ensure that existing and new requirements – such as the NPL Directive – are framed so that they are operationally workable and do not create disproportionate administrative burdens.
- Greater efficiency: a key focus is identifying external obstacles, particularly in judicial enforcement and recovery. We argue for stronger digitalisation of court processes across member states.
- Harmonisation: the goal is a genuine European single market for loan purchases – one that eases cross-border transactions and reduces legal uncertainty for investors.
A gain for the industry
“Our admission to the NPL Advisory Panel confirms the expert work we have done so far,” said BKS President Jürgen Sonder. “We will use this platform to work constructively on solutions that both safeguard financial stability and preserve the ability of market participants to act.”
We are grateful to our team and our members, whose expertise and support made this possible, and we look forward to working with the Commission and our European partner associations.
